Midsummer Celebration 24.-26.6.2022

Finland celebrates the start of the summer period undet the name of Juhannus (the summer solstice was earlier called "Ukko's celebration" after the Finnish god Ukko After the celebrations were Christianized, the holiday became known as juhannus after John the Baptist). Juhannus Day is always Saturday in week 25 but many of the Juhannus celebrations take place on midsummer eve (Friday), when many workplaces are closed and shops may close their doors at noon. In summer 2022 the Juhannus Eve is on 22.6.2022.
In the Finnish midsummer celebration, bonfires (Finnish kokko) are very common and are burned at lakesides and by the sea. Often branches from birch trees (koivu) are placed on both side of the front door to welcome visitors.
In Rauhalahti the Juhannus Celebration takes place in Jätkänkämppä, the traditional lumberjacks' lodge from 1950's. It situates only 600 metres from Spa Hotel Rauhalahti, in the end of the peninsula on Lake Kallavesi.
